Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue
Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are overlapping illnesses, with many people suffering from both at the same time, and most doctors greatly misinterpret the nature of these two diseases.
Many patients are misdiagnosed and report seeing multiple doctors before receiving a diagnosis. Once diagnosed, the treatment options offered by conventional medicine are limited.
Dr. Bonlie has been studying and treating fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue patients since 1995, and holistically since 2008. He has extensively studied the SHINE Protocol by Dr. Teitelbaum and continues to follow the latest research in the field.
The SHINE protocol is an acronym the outlines the treatment program.
S – Sleep
H – Hormones
I – Immune support and treatment of chronic infections
N – Nutritional support
E – Exercise
People who suffer from these illnesses often have complex a medical history and have seen many providers in the past. Dr. Bonlie takes the time to obtain a thorough history and exam with each patient so the complex needs of the individual can be met.
Labs are also performed and are interpreted carefully in the context of the patient’s symptoms. When the numbers are compared with body symptoms, patterns begin to emerge that tell the story of imbalances present. Using bio-identical hormones, nutritional therapies, and supplements, these imbalances can be corrected.
Medications are also utilized where appropriate.
The pain of Fibromyalgia results from a combination of the brain’s sensitivity to pain and the poor function of the body’s tissues generating excess pain. The goal of Dr. Bonlie’s treatment plan is to restore health to the body so it will stop generating so much pain. Dr. Bonlie does not prescribe painkillers to his patients.
He will work with people who are getting pain medications prescribed from another doctor, but prescribing pain medicine is not part of the program. Most of Dr. Bonlie’s patients have been able to reduce or eliminate their prescription pain medicine with the treatment plan.
